Dropping out

You must inform the nearest aid station or Mountain Patrol if you drop out of the race.

Course Reconnaissance

We welcome you to check out the Wildflower course prior to the event, but please be aware that foot access to DH mountain biking trails is NOT PERMITTED except on race day.

Weather

Please be prepared for any type of weather. The weather at Grand Targhee in July is dynamic and conditions can quickly change. Our summits can be cold and wet with low visibility, gusty or hot and dry. Grand Targhee Race Staff reserve the right to stop the race at any time, should they deem the courses unsafe due to weather.

Course Markings

For all races (1K, 10K, 1/2 Marathon and 50K), Grand Targhee Events Crew will do everything they can to have the course marked well for race participants on the day of the event. Runners must follow trail marking and not cut switchbacks. Off-trail sections of the course will be marked in a way that race participants should be able to see from each course marking to the next to help guide them along the course (race tape, pin flags). Critical trail junctions will be marked with signage indicating runner direction particular to your specific race (10K, 1/2 Marathon, 50K)

50K Suggested Gear

Hooded waterproof and breathable jacket. Essential in protecting you from the elements.  The jacket should be waterproof and not just water resistant. For example, the Patagonia Houdini will not work.

32oz water carrying capacity – The 50K is a tough race and dehydration can happen quickly. 32oz is the minimum you should need to get from aid station to aid station. Does not need to be full at all times.

Food reserves – Runners should have more food than they plan to need. This can help save you and give you the fuel you need to reach the next aid station if it is taking more time than expected.

Technical long sleeve for additional warmth – Additional layer of protection when the temps are low or precipitation is in the forecast.

Warm hat or neck gaiter – More warmth and protection to allow you to maintain the capacity to stay warm.

Light gloves – If your hands become too cold for use then you drink and eat less. Gloves will keep your hands functioning when you need this or during the scrambling sections of the course.

Poles – Trekking poles can be helpful for steeper climbs (Bannock, May's, Peaked) and we recommend them for people who feel comfortable using them in this terrain.

Sunscreen – At Targhee's elevation, the sun is strong and sunscreen can be your best friend!

Reusable cup – The Wildflower Run is a cupless event.  Please bring your own container to receive food and liquid.
