Live Music: Aaron Davis & The Mystery Machine
Live music at the Trap Bar!
“An essential force in the Americana roots music scene in Wyoming” (KHOL 89.1FM), Kentucky native Aaron Davis stages his songs with poetic amplitude, soulful groove and a deep well of old-time and modern sonic textures—voice, electric & resonator & lap steel guitars, open-back banjo, harmonica, and analog simulations. Aaron is chiefly known as co-founder of national touring act Screen Door Porch and owner-engineer-session player at Three Hearted Recording Studio in Hoback, Wyo. The “truly phenomenal songwriter” (Americana UK) works the lesser-worn corners of the American musical fabric through an unconventional lens. Through a dozen releases of original music, the press has described Aaron’s output as “a combination that goes down like top-shelf bourbon” (Austin Chronicle) with "a searing slide guitar" (Country Weekly), and “a particularly standout approach that mixes poetry, groove and roughness” (Lonestar Time). The fervent eclecticism and dynamic chemistry of Aaron Davis & The Mystery Machine allows the quartet to stretch out in various directions from highly orchestrated arrangements, off-the-cuff improvisations and feel-good grooves. Likened to heroes by Wyoming Public Radio as “the vibe of The Band going throughout,” the crafty textures and rich harmony are courtesy of David Bundy (bass, harmony vocal), Liam Mountain O’Neill (drums, percussion), and Mike Patton (piano, organ, synth, harmony vocal). It’s a downhome fusion of roots-inspired Wyo-Americana bridging alt-country, groovy roots rock, gritty slide blues, pensive indie-folk, gypsy grass, and Western swing. Aaron has been fortunate to share bills with many of his heroes including Wilco, Willie Nelson, Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit, Buddy Guy, Sam Bush, Brian Wilson, Steve Earle, Grace Potter, Sarah Jarosz, Justin Townes Earle, and James McMurtry.
